There are many dental
procedures available today to save or repair
problem teeth but there are situations when
removing tooth is the only solution to the
problem. Each patient is provided with
postoperative and home care instructions as well
as different options to replace missing tooth.
Wisdom Teeth
The shape of the modern human mouth is often
too small to accommodate wisdom teeth that make
their first appearance in young adults between
the ages of 15 to 25. Humans have learned to
harness fire for cooking foods and developed
better tools to better process food before
consumption therefore reducing the need for
strong jaws to chew food. According to studies
of ancient skull specimens, over time, a full
set of teeth in a smaller jaw cause crowding in
permanent teeth because of lack of space.
Partially erupted wisdom teeth are breeding
grounds for bacteria and germs. Inability to
keep the area clean may cause reoccurring
infections and destruction of the adjacent
teeth. In addition, cysts and tumors may grow on
a trapped wisdom tooth.
