DENTAL IMPLANTS

Dental Implants

Dental implants are an effective way to replace missing teeth and are designed to blend in with your other teeth. They are an excellent long-term option for restoring your smile. The implant is made of titanium and other materials that are compatible with the human body which are placed into the upper or lower jaw where they serve as an anchor for replacement teeth. Over a few months, the implant fuses permanently with your jawbone to replace missing tooth roots. This implant also supports the jaw bone and protects the structure of your face.

Benefits of Dental Implants:

  • Improved Appearance – Dental Implants look and feel like your own teeth. Implants also help to avoid bone loss associated with tooth loss protecting your facial bones to prevent drooping and bone loss.

  • Improved Comfort – Dental Implants fuse with your jawbone, becoming permanent, and therefore eliminate the discomfort of removable dentures.

  • Convenience – Patients can eat food without restriction.

  • Improved Self-Esteem – Dental Implants can give you back your smile. Dental Implant supported crowns look and feel just like your natural teeth, restoring confidence in your smile!

  • Improved Oral Health Dental Implants do not require any changes to your other, often healthy teeth, unlike other options such as tooth-supported bridges.

  • Durability – Dental Implants are very durable and will last many years with proper care. Overall, Dental Implants have a 95% success rate. Historically, Dr. Gritsiv’s success rate has been even higher.

  • Improved Speech – Poor-fitting dentures often slip within the mouth. Dental Implants allow you to speak without the worry that teeth might slip.

Dental Implants BEFORE & AFTER

Dental Implants WHAT TO EXPECT

The entire procedure usually takes 3 steps.

Surgical Implantation – After your exam and once it has been determined that Dental Implants are the right choice for you. You will be scheduled for your placement appointment. At this appointment Dr. Gritsiv will surgically place the implant into the jawbone. It replaces the missing tooth root and ensures that your dental restoration is stable.

Healing – Next, we will allow the bone around the implant to heal. This process is called osseointegration and it’s this process that makes the implant such a strong, long-lasting option. Your jawbone grows around the implant, bonding to the biocompatible post and holds it in place. Every patient is different so the length of time for this process varies. Some patients might need to wait until the implant is completely integrated, which can be several months, before we can attach your custom-made implant crown to the implant.

Restoration – The final step is the placement of your custom-made implant crown or crowns. This crown will be designed to blend in with your other teeth. In some cases, if we are replacing more than one tooth a custom-made bridge or denture will be fit to your implants. **Often while we are fabricating your custom-made crown, bridge, or denture we will give you a temporary to use until your permanent replacement is available.

Dental Implants FAQS

How Long is the Entire Process?

The entire implant process generally takes six to eight months. Most patients do not experience a disruption to their daily lives while the implant is integrating into their bone.

Am I a Good Candidate for a Dental Implant?

Dental implants are for people who are missing one or more teeth. Patients must have adequate jawbone remaining for dental implants to be successful. Dr. Gritsiv will perform a comprehensive examination and use the latest digital technology, such as the Sirona Cone Beam Computerized Tomography (CBCT). The CBCT allows us to see your jaw bones three dimensionally. He will also evaluate your health history to assess your candidacy. Chronic illnesses, such as diabetes or leukemia, may interfere with healing after surgery. Using tobacco can also slow healing. Patients with these issues may not be good candidates for implants.

Do Dental Implants Require Special Care?

No, dental implants do not require any additional maintenance than your natural teeth. It is essential that you brush and floss regularly, as well as visit your dentist at least twice a year for dental cleanings.

Will People Know I Have a Dental Implant?

Not unless you tell them! Dental implants are not noticeable. They are designed to look and feel just like your natural teeth.

Do Dental Implants Last?

The health of the gums is vital to maintaining lasting implant therefore it is imperative that patients continue with regular professional cleanings/check-ups and patient home care. Each patient is different, and success relies upon many factors but many dental implants last a lifetime.

Can Dentures be Made into Implants?

Dentures cannot be made into implants. However, it might be possible to have implants placed beneath existing dentures to aid in the stabilization and support for those dentures.

Are Dental Implants Removable Like Dentures?

No, dental implants are placed into your jawbone and over time the bone actually fuses to the dental implant.
